On March 3, 2026, you can look forward to top-class chamber music: the Euphorie Quartet from Berlin will be performing in Gladbeck as part of the Forum of German Music Universities. This piano quartet - consisting of violin, viola, cello and piano - was founded in 2022 by four young musicians who are studying at the Berlin University of the Arts and the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music. The ensemble has made a name for itself in a very short time: it made its debut in May 2023 at the sold-out Konzerthaus Berlin and delighted the audience with brilliant, mature interpretations of Fauré and Schumann. The quartet is coached by Prof. Jonathan Aner (Hanns Eisler Hochschule Berlin), a chamber music expert who promotes the group's musical development.

For Gladbeck, the Euphorie Quartet has chosen "From Darkness to Light" as the leitmotif for its program. Accordingly, you can expect a dramaturgically well thought-out progression through three epochs: A late-romantic piano quartet by Johannes Brahms opens the evening - with powerful, melancholy and beautiful passages that gradually break open with hope. Alfred Schnittke's "Piano Quartet" (1988) follows as a contrast, a compact modernist work based on a fragment by Gustav Mahler. Here you are immersed in dark, exciting sound experiments that explore the boundaries of tonality and build a bridge between past and present. Finally, George Enescu's Piano Quartet (No. 1 in D major) leads the musical transformation into the light: with echoes of Romanian folk music, rhythmic vitality and radiant harmonies, the program ends in a cheerful and emotional atmosphere.

The four musicians of the Euphorie Quartet - from Japan, Poland, Germany and Hungary - combine technical perfection with palpable dedication in their playing. Every note, every bow stroke and every touch on the piano testifies to intensive rehearsal work and genuine euphoria for the music.
