Jazz times three - this is the motto of the concert on February 19, 2026, when the Nuremberg University of Music sends three of its most outstanding jazz pianists to Gladbeck. Lion Wegmann, Louis Protzer and Alberto Diaz Castillo will share a concert evening and yet they couldn't be more different. Each of the three brings their own piece: The compositions have titles such as "Ornithology", "Mark Time" and "By Night" and give an indication of the atmosphere that awaits you - from an inspired flight of birds into jazzy spheres to rhythmically pulsating time signatures and atmospheric midnight improvisations.

Lion Wegmann - trained at the Nuremberg University of Music and recently awarded the Steinway Jazz Prize - impresses with his own refined compositions and highly nuanced, melodic playing. His jazz on the piano is both technically adept and emotionally "differentiated" - you can hear the attention to detail here. Louis Protzer, also studying in Nuremberg and successful at the NUEJAZZ competition, amazes with the harmonic richness and a pinch of humor in his pieces. In his piano improvisations, a "harmonic depth, complexity and expressiveness" shines through, as the jury praised - jazz that appeals to the head and heart. Finally, Alberto Diaz Castillo, who trained in Havana and has been living in Nuremberg for several years, brings the energy of Latin America with him: Afro-Cuban rhythms, passionate improvisations and cross-genre curiosity characterize his playing. He is the winner of the Future Sounds competition in Leverkusen and has made a name for himself in various formations.

When these three individualists step up to the piano one after the other - and perhaps together - you can expect a firework display of jazz piano artistry. From classic swing and bebop influences to modern jazz fusion elements, everything is included. Each pianist tells their own musical story, and yet a coherent overall picture emerges over the course of the evening: jazz as a lively, multifaceted language, performed with virtuosity by three young artists who are masters of their instruments. This concert offers you swinging grooves, soulful ballads and brilliant improvisational duels - a unique experience that you should not miss!
