On 22 April 2026, you can expect a concert evening of an extraordinary kind, as the percussion duo Timbrecussion - consisting of Thomas Fritzler and Miyaka Yotsumoto - will be making a guest appearance in Gladbeck with their program "Das menschliche Zahnrad". This duo from the Detmold University of Music won a funding competition ("Playground") in 2024 with their innovative performance and are now presenting a rousing percussion theater full of creativity. Unlike classical concerts, there are no breaks or rigid sequences here: "Das menschliche Zahnrad" is a coherent show lasting around an hour in which music, movement and light merge into a gripping story.

In terms of content, the program deals with the contrast between the smooth functioning of our tireless society and the expression of personal individuality. The two artists realize this idea solely with their means as percussionists - and in a spectacular way. They reinterpret works by contemporary composers such as Casey Cangelosi, Ivan Trevino and Georges Aperghis and weave them into a continuous narrative. To do so, they use an arsenal of percussion instruments and everyday objects: From the marimba to the drum, from electronic pads to a bucket of water, everything becomes an instrument. 🥁💧 Using their hands, drumsticks and even their own bodies (body percussion), they create rhythms and sounds that get under your skin.

The performance surprises again and again with unconventional elements: Water fountains are suddenly played rhythmically in the spotlight, camera projections show the action from crazy perspectives, the musicians move across the stage in a choreographed manner, sometimes interacting synchronously like machines, sometimes chaotically emotionally. Lighting design and electronic effects create atmospheric images ranging from techno club to shadow theater. Even voice is used: from speaking to archaic screams, Fritzler and Yotsumoto expand their sound spectrum. This mixture of virtuoso percussion art and performance art inevitably captivates the audience. You feel with them when dissonant rhythms depict conflicts or when a harmonious glockenspiel marks a moment of reconciliation.

With "The Human Cogwheel",Timbrecussion succeeds in creating a total work of art that goes beyond the boundaries of the concert form and yet remains accessible to everyone.
