The history of sex work can be traced from well before antiquity to the present day. The image of humanity that shaped the time, the values that applied and who exercised power can also be seen in how sex work was dealt with in society. In some times, it was one of the few opportunities for women to generate their own income. Until now, their story has mostly been told from an outside perspective. The exhibition SEX WORK tells the story differently: together with a collective of researching sex workers, art, cultural history and archive material will be presented at the Bundeskunsthalle, based on a central principle: Nothing about us without us!
