In the organizer's words:

About the dance pieces:

Dance double bill with choreographies by Samir Calixto (for Of Curious Nature) and Sita Ostheimer (for Zfin Malta)
Presented by steptext dance project

Two choreographers. Two international ensembles. Two contemporary declarations of love for resilience, the human capacity for survival, renewal and transformation. Rich in contrast, delicate and explosive, each of the two choreographies develops its own rhythmic pull.

In "Mortal Heroes", Sita Ostheimer and the dance company Zfin Malta invite us to explore human potential - an odyssey through chaos and love, shadow and light, fragility and strength. With their characteristic movement language, accompanied by the moving music of Adrien Casalis and the haunting lighting of Barnaby Booth, a charged, pulsating space is created - tense and alive - that keeps the audience in a state of constant expectation. Beginnings and endings blur, giving way to an incessant cycle of becoming - a constantly renewing space in which the heroic lies not in perfection, but in vulnerability, courage and the will to go on.

Of Curious Nature accompanies this guest performance with the choreography "Fulgence" ("the radiant") by Samir Calixto. Calixto locates the act of rebellion as deeply rooted in our being, as innate perseverance, tenacity and strength in challenging moments. The choreography develops from a deadlocked situation into an act of liberation. The ensemble dispels the inner darkness with euphoric bursts of movement. As if in a fever, the bodies dance in an act of resistance and illuminate the shadows of our existence with their inner radiance.

About the choreographers:

Samir Calixto was born in 1978 in São Paulo, Brazil. Before coming to dance, he studied acting at the EAD (Drama Art School) of São Paulo University and classical singing at the São Paulo Conservatory. In 2004, Calixto moved his work to Europe and initially established himself as a freelance dancer. Since 2012, he has primarily developed his own pieces and has made a name for himself as a freelance choreographer in the Netherlands and Italy. Since then, his pieces have toured successfully on all stages in Holland, followed by international commissions and guest performances.

After studying at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main,Sita Ostheimer was a dancer for MS Schrittmacher at the Staatstheater Oldenburg, then with Itzik Galili in Groningen and Krisztina de Chatel in Amsterdam. From 2007 to 2018, she worked with Hofesh Shechter Company as a dancer, workshop leader and choreographic assistant. Since 2017, she has been the artistic director of her Berlin-based platform Sita Ostheimer Company, whose core team consists of lighting designer Barnaby Booth and composer Adrien Casalis. Ostheimer's focus is on developing and deepening her own movement aesthetics, philosophy and choreographic poetry. As a freelance choreographer, she has created commissioned works for the Xiexin Dance Theatre Shanghai, the Hessisches Staatsballett Wiesbaden, the Staatstheater Kassel, the Staatstheater Braunschweig, Frontier Danceland Singapore, the MIRdance Company Gelsenkirchen, the Stadttheater Pforzheim and the Volkstheater Rostock.
