Gamze Kubaşık and Semiya Şimşek, whose fathers Mehmet Kubaşık and Enver Şimşek were murdered by the far-right NSU, have been fighting for years to be heard and no longer treated as marginal figures in their own story. In their book, they trace how they experienced the murder of their fathers as 14 and 20-year-olds and how the years of suspicion and the failure of the authorities shaped their families. As soul sisters, they helped each other through unspeakably difficult years. They criticize the lack of clarification, the disappointment over the NSU trial, the emptiness of political promises and hollow acts of remembrance. Their book, written with co-author Christine Werner, is a personal testimony against forgetting and an appeal to fight racism and right-wing extremism together. Her story is part of German history.
The event will be moderated by Bastian Schlange.
