A special exhibit from the Lower Saxony State Archives is being presented in the current special exhibition "ResidenzWechsel": a family register. A book presentation of the conference volume "Writing about family registers" will now provide an opportunity to delve deeper into the history and significance of this medium.
Family registers, the historical predecessors of today's friendship book, were created over 450 years ago. Entries such as quotations, sayings, coats of arms and pictures reflect the individual tastes as well as the social networks of the owners and are a popular interdisciplinary object of research today.
Dr. Philip Haas will provide an insight into the fully digitized and detailed family register collection of the Wolfenbüttel State Archives. He will present key findings and content from the accompanying publication "Monuments of Friendship", which provides a well-founded introduction to the collection.
In addition, Dr. Sven Limbeck will draw attention to the Herzog August Library's rich collection of genealogical books, which includes the "Great Genealogical Book" by Philipp Hainhofer.
A wonderful opportunity to gain an insight into two fascinating collections!
The conference proceedings can then be purchased on site.
Afterwards, there will be an opportunity for further discussion over drinks.
