How can historical experiences of violence be told and reflected upon in exhibition contexts? What images, stories and voices are needed to convey an understanding of past wars and at the same time ensure a sensitive approach to the memories of those affected without retraumatizing them? What challenges arise from the ubiquitous presence of depictions of violence in digital media?

In this event, we want to explore the question of what forms of expression are needed to come close to the complexity of different historical experiences of violence. We will look at the ways in which post-war societies tried to process their traumas, explain them and pass them on to future generations. The question of how we can specifically remember what needs to be prevented in the future is considered as an active practice.
