Glen Hansard is the prototype of a born musician who dedicates his life entirely to his art. He started making street music in Dublin at the age of 13 out of conviction. After founding his band The Frames in 1990, he finally became internationally known through his role in Alan Parker's film "The Commitments" as an acting musician in 1991. From 2006, after Glen Hansard had alreadyreleased six albums with The Framesand celebrated his first and so far only number one success in Ireland with the 2004 album "Burn The Maps" , he devoted himself to other projects. Together with the Czech singer and multi-instrumentalist Markéta Irglová, he founded the duo The Swell Season. They produced an album of the same name, which also served as the soundtrack for the music film "Once", in which he and Irglová played the leading roles. The film became an international success and earned the pair an Oscar and a Critics' Choice Award for Best Song for the song "Falling Slowly", while the accompanying musical was honored with a Grammy in 2013. With the success of the film, The Frames - of which Hansard has undoubtedly been the band leader since their formation - moved further into the background after the release of their album "The Cost" (2006). "Strict Joy", the second album from The Swell Season, followed in 2009. He then focused on his career as an independent musician, toured with Eddie Vedder and wrote his first solo album. Aspects such as authenticity, emotionality, intensity, passion and intimacy can be felt in his music on all levels and are carried through his songs. This also applies to his rousing live shows, which will take him to Cologne, Berlin, Munich and Hamburg in May 2026.

With his debut album "Rhythm and Repose", Glen Hansard entered the Irish charts at number 3 in 2012 and celebrated his first hit with the quiet ballad "High Hope". "Didn't He Ramble" repeated this chart position and brought the Irish musician into the top 50 of the German album charts for the first time in 2015 thanks to songs such as "Wedding Ring" and "Winning Streak". With his third album "Between Two Shores " and the song "Why Woman", the singer-songwriter celebrated his biggest success in Germany in 2018 at number 16 in the official album charts. After his fourth album "This Wild Willing " (2019), his latest album "All That Was East Is West of Me Now" was released in 2023, which was celebrated by British magazine Mojo for the wide variety of musical aspects that the singer-songwriter combined on one album for the first time. In November 2024, he returned with The Swell Season and a tour that took the duo through the UK and Europe in May 2025. The new album "Forward" followed in July of that year. Over the years, Glen Hansard - now 55 years old - has developed into a seasoned singer-songwriter who, in addition to his diverse influences from folk, rock, jazz, indie and pop, impresses above all with his fundamental musical values.
