Matters of the heart

At the last concert evening of the year in the Global Pott - Musik im Salon series, we can look forward to a song recital with Pauline Schulenburg, Christoph Seidl and Maren Donner

A matter of the heart can be so many things: a wish, a ritual, a need, a longing, a dream. It can be a person or a place with which we feel deeply connected - something that motivates and inspires us. One thing is certain: a matter of the heart is deeply personal and meaningful. It touches.

And this is exactly what the music of this special evening of songs does.

Johannes Brahms' Four Serious Songs, his last completed songs, take up biblical texts and reflect his confrontation with the subject of death. Edvard Grieg's selected songs are multifaceted declarations of love - to literature and poetry as well as to the singer Nina Hagerup, the composer's later wife.

The songs from Franz Schubert's Schwanengesang (also a late work) span a wide emotional range: from deep drama to floating lightness, always carried by the interplay and balance of emotional forces.

An evening that touches - full of music that can become an affair of the heart.

Global Pott brings the world to Kunsthaus Essen: Every first Thursday of the month, international sound cultures meet experimental formats, improvised sound spaces and unusual ensemble line-ups. The new concert series presents musicians from the Ruhr region and beyond, whose roots and sounds are as diverse as the region itself. The program evolved from the established chamber music series Kunsthaus Salon and has now been expanded to include global perspectives and new musical approaches.
