Fado and its emotional expressiveness have long had a large fan base in the northwest. Reason enough to dedicate an evening with two outstanding vocalists to this musical style, which epitomizes the wistful mood of Portugal ("saudade"). One of the few international fado singers is Telmo Pires. Born in Bragança, he came to the Ruhr region with his family as a small child in the 1970s - and only discovered fado in a roundabout way. Today he combines it with new sonic facets, as his interpretations of the songs of António Variações, who in turn was a great admirer of the fado icon Amália Rodrigues, show. Cristina Branco, who made her Glocke debut back in 2003, has now released her 18th studio album "Mãe", which once again redefines fado while honoring its traditional roots. With their expressive voices and poignant melodies, both celebrate not only the melancholy side of life, but also the beauty of life with a touch of cheerfulness.
