About the performance

Close your eyes and think of someone who has shaped you, someone you love": The performance FOR THE ONES WE LOVE creates a space to pay tribute to these people - be they friends, relatives or public figures such as artists, philosophers or politicians. Maybe they live far away, maybe they have already passed away? In 10- to 15-minute public sessions, which take place over several hours in the festival center, visitors come into contact with the performers individually - in a subtly humorous ritual of remembrance: blindfolded, they draw the loved one on a foil that is projected onto the wall and share their personal stories with the people in the room. The result is sometimes entertaining, sometimes touching, sometimes absurd portraits - and a community-building experience that can take surprising turns. The internationally acclaimed German-British collective Gob Squad was awarded the Silver Lion at the Venice Theater Biennale 2024 and is back in Munich for the first time in many years.

.

Simply put

In this performance at the Festival Center, visitors think of a person they love or who has influenced them. Blindfolded, they draw this person and tell their story. The audience watches. A special space for memory, feelings and community is created.

About Gob Squad

The seven-member German-British performance collective Gob Squad was founded in 1994 by students from Nottingham Trent University and the Institute for Applied Theater Studies Giessen. Since then, they have been creating interdisciplinary and participatory works that find their inspiration in everyday life and in areas such as pop culture, film and music. The collective stands for a free way of working without hierarchies or fixed roles and realizes its projects beyond classical cultural institutions.
