With their first EP, released in January, GROUNDING, the new project of saxophonist Fabian Deschler, presents itself - a quartet that creates a dialog between the concrete and the abstract in an innovative and accessible way.

The band moves in a field of tension between contemporary and avant-garde jazz. Concise melodies develop into experimental sounds, from energetically raw to calm and introspective. The musicians always remain grounded, which can be understood not only as a tribute to their name, but also as a principle of their musical identity.

GROUNDING unites four up-and-coming musicians from Germany and Sweden: Fabian Deschler (alto saxophone), Daniel Sauer (tenor saxophone), Olle Lannér Risenfors (double bass) and Malte Wiest (drums). Despite, or perhaps because of their international roots, they have developed an unmistakable collective sound language that leads the listener into unexpected musical worlds.

At the heart of the band is the interplay between the two saxophones, which complement, harmonize or contrast with each other contrapuntally. The absence of a harmony instrument opens up the space for intensive interaction, both between the musicians and between structure and freedom. The compositions also reflect this dualistic approach: a piece like Rotation, with its rock-like drive, shows how clear forms and spontaneous creativity mutually enrich each other. Meditation, on the other hand, takes the listener on a journey that unfolds from minimalist ostinati to free, abstracted soundscapes. With The Tunnel, the band finally reaches the peak of its avant-garde side: an intense play with sound colors, dynamics and expressive energy. Each track on the EP is a microcosm of its own, revealing the different facets of GROUNDING.

But GROUNDING is far more than just a studio project. Their concerts are characterized by a tireless joy of experimentation and a musical alertness that makes every performance a unique experience. With great sensitivity for details and impressive spontaneity, they manage to inspire the audience, whether jazz connoisseurs or curious music lovers.
