What is the Green Sauce Festival?

Since 2008, the Green Sauce Festival has been about the all-important question: Who makes the best? During the nine-day festival, a total of 56 restaurants from Frankfurt and the surrounding area put their skills in preparing green sauce to the test.

The culinary competition is embedded in a first-class show program with changing guest artists from the fields of comedy, music, cabaret and artistry.

The Green Sauce Festival is an integral part of the Rhine-Main region's calendar of events and delights over 5,000 visitors every year with its unique combination of culture and culinary competition.

The jury

The audience is the "expert jury"! Every evening, 650 guests taste the 7 glasses of green sauce variations from the respective restaurants. This is accompanied by potatoes and eggs, first-class wines and ciders, beer and soft drinks - all included in the ticket price. At the end of the evening, the voting cards are drawn and the audience chooses the evening's winner. This all takes place under notarial supervision. The glasses are numbered and nobody knows which glass belongs to which restaurant. This is only revealed after the tasting.

The eight evening winners compete in the grand final and the audience chooses the winner of the festival.

Procedure

A festival evening is entertaining throughout: the show is opened by Andy Ost and the five-piece festival band. The first guest on stage is the legendary Hilde from Bornheim, before the participating chefs of the evening are introduced. The stage then belongs to the respective guest artist until the interval. During the break, the tables are set and the great tasting and talking shop begins. After the voting cards have been collected, the show program continues until the evening's winner is finally announced.

The entire show lasts approx. 2.5 hours including an interval. Admission is from 7.15 pm, the show starts at 8.00 pm.

Of course, the competition for the best green sauce is above all else, of course everyone wants to win - but not doggedly, but with a lot of humor and mutual respect.

Over 5,000 guests, 56 restaurateurs, renowned artists - they all celebrate Grie Soß! in nine evening shows during the festival.
