Hans Christian Andersen - Poet with pen and scissors

A musically framed portrait on the 150th anniversary of the poet's death

Lecture by Detlef Stein with musical accompaniment

Born in Odense in 1805, the poet enjoyed great success during his lifetime with fairy tales such as "The Little Mermaid" and "The Girl with the Matchsticks". Since then, his stories have been translated into more than 120 languages and have touched countless people all over the world.

However, those who only see Hans Christian Andersen as a fairy tale writer overlook the diversity of his work, which ranges from the well-known stories and novels to enchantingly beautiful silhouettes.

The lecture presents the astonishing life story - but especially the unknown sides of the poet - and creates an atmospheric portrait of the poet with pen and scissors, alternating between words, images and music.

Detlef Stein was the initiator and, together with Anne Buschhoff, curator of the highly acclaimed exhibition Hans Christian Andersen - Poet with Pen and Scissors, which took place at the Bremen Kunsthalle in 2018/19 under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Benedikte of Denmark.

Detlef Stein has been accompanied by cellist Clara Berger since 2021. She trained in Lübeck, London and Hanover, where she completed her Master of Music with top marks.
