Haydn: „Die Schöpfung“ - Großes Oratorien-Konzert in Basilika St. Bonifaz zum 175. Jubiläum der Abtei

The Benedictine Abbey of St. Boniface is celebrating its 175th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, the St. Bonifaz Abbey Choir and members of the Bavarian State Orchestra will perform the oratorio "The Creation" by Joseph Haydn (1732 - 1809) on Sunday, October 26 at 3.30 pm.
The conductor is Martin Fleckenstein. The soloists will be Lydia Teuscher (soprano), Markus Gruber (tenor) and Holger Ohlmann (bass). Admission costs 20 euros (reduced 15 euros). Tickets are available from 3 p.m. at the box office in St. Bonifaz Basilica. The performance lasts approximately two hours.
"The Creation" was composed between 1796 and 1798 and is an oratorio about the creation of the world as told in the first chapter of Genesis. It follows the works of God from the first to the sixth day, but instead of the seventh day, it includes a reflection on the first people in paradise. Haydn was inspired to compose the work during his stays in England in 1791-92 and 1794-95, when he heard the great oratorios by George Frideric Handel. According to Haydn, composition was an inspiring and deeply religious experience for him.
