Henrik Schrat (illustration). Grimm's Fairy Tales (Textem Verlag)
Author reading and discussion in the series: Art meets Literature
A new five-volume edition of all the original fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm has been artistically updated by Henrik Schrat. His drawings interweave the Grimm texts with contemporary situations, with places of the present and figures from contemporary history or the fantasy world. The five volumes are a snapshot of the early 2020s and thus a mirror of our time. Henrik Schrat and Rudolf Müller will talk about the current images of fairy tales with the participation of the Instagram generation.
Henrik Schrat, born on March 25, 1968, studied painting and stage design at the Dresden University of Fine Arts from 1991 to 1998. From 2000 to 2002, he studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London, the art school of University College London, where he graduated with a Master of Arts. In 2011, he received his doctorate from the Business School, Department of Management, at the University of Essex with a thesis on the possibilities of comics in the organizational context. After various teaching assignments, he has been a visiting professor at Hunan City University, China, since 2019. He lives in Berlin.
