Who doesn't know them - the factual stories in the "Sendung mit der Maus"? Kai von Westerman has been accompanying them as a cameraman for over 30 years. On Wednesday, January 28 at 7.30 pm, he will be reading from his narrative non-fiction book "Herr Maiwald, der Armin und wir: In the workshop of non-fiction stories".

Kai von Westerman, born in 1960 in Tübingen, is not only a film director and screenwriter. Since 1993, he has worked as a cameraman in the team of Armin Maiwald, one of the fathers of "Sendung mit der Maus". Over the decades, Maiwald has developed and filmed 1000 reports for this TV series. No cameraman has worked for Armin Maiwald over such a long period of time as Kai von Westerman and accompanied him everywhere. He has experienced a great deal in the process. On Wednesday, January 28, at 7.30 pm in the Theatergemeinde BONN, he will read from his book "Herr Maiwald, der Armin und wir - In der Werkstatt der Sachgeschichten" (Mr. Maiwald, Armin and Us - In the Workshop of Factual Stories) and provide a look behind the scenes and at a special and indestructible part of German television history.

Even as a very young cameraman, von
Westerman had to be able to do everything: Time-lapse, slow motion, tricky model shots, microscope shots, animations and to be ready for impossible camera positions - such as hanging high up in a helicopter in the open door or filming deep underground in a manhole. The factual stories shed light on a wide variety of topics, often in unusual ways: How does electricity get into the socket? How does salt get into the sea? Or the streaks in the toothpaste? What does the Pope's chicken coop look like or how does a nuclear power plant work? The factual stories are exciting and informative for all generations. No wonder that sixty percent of Maus viewers are adults. In 2002, von Westerman received an award for Best Documentary Film at the Grenzland Film Festival in Selb for Wie Erich seine Arbeit verlorst.
