Hochbegabung: Lesung am 21.11.2025 in Gießen mit Susanne Burzel

Do you also think that highly gifted children get through school without any problems and have an easy time in life? You are by no means alone in this. However, very few people are aware that giftedness can make it difficult for a child or young person to succeed at school.

Gifted children and young people struggle with special challenges that are usually beyond the view of teachers and parents. It is rarely obvious at first glance that giftedness is behind some behavioral problems. On the other hand, very good grades and a high level of performance are not a reliable indication of above-average talent or giftedness.

In her book, author Susanne Burzel provides insights into the challenges faced by families with a gifted child who refused to go to school for two years. She wants to encourage affected parents and open their eyes to this sensitive topic, which is far removed from the "genius and high achiever" myth.

The topics of ADHD and autism spectrum disorder are also areas that are highlighted by the author. Because here we are moving in the difficult field of misdiagnosis and dual diagnosis, especially as some children are "doubly special". With her book, Susanne Burzel wants to encourage parents and open the eyes of teachers and those responsible for this often prejudiced topic.
