HOTSPOTS OF ART: Launch der neuen Archivwebsite

On February 9, 2026, the new archive website HOTSPOTS OF ART will be presented at the Lenbachhaus. The launch will take place as part of the OFF ON event organized by the Munich Department of Culture, which is dedicated to Munich's off-spaces. The event will take place from 18:00 to 21:00 in the foyer of the Lenbachhaus.

HOTSPOTS OF ART is a digital archive for current and historical non-commercial art locations in Munich. The platform was developed by PLATFORM Munich in collaboration with Studio Alpenglühen and makes the diversity of these places visible.

The project goes back to an analog city map that was conceived in 2020 by PLATFORM volunteer Hanna Banholzer. In 2026, this idea is now being relaunched as a revised online version. The digital map provides an overview of non-commercial art spaces in Munich and is intended as a constantly growing archive. In the future, it will be expanded to include a historical level that documents the changes in Munich's art scene since 1945.

The presentation of the website is part of the OFF ON event, which deals with the importance of off-spaces for the city of Munich and their support by the Department of Culture. Film portraits of twelve Munich off-spaces, directed by Julia Benkert, will be shown for the first time in the foyer of the Lenbachhaus. This will be followed by a discussion with Nina Oswald from the Munich Department of Culture, the artist and professor Olaf Nicolai and the filmmaker Julia Benkert.
