Music as a mirror of human experience: HUMAN brings together choral works and arrangements that oscillate between abyss and hope.
The compositions by Thomas Jennefelt, Jaakko Mäntyjärvi, Yui Katada and Francis Poulenc are haunting testimonies to the confrontation with war, fear and resistance - from wordless outcries and the quiet voices of people in the face of death to hymns to freedom. They are juxtaposed with chansons and pop songs from the 1910s to 1940s - sometimes cheerful, sometimes melancholy - musical escapes from a gloomy reality.
Choir, accordion, historical polyphonic recordings and old music boxes interweave to create a sound space that makes radical contrasts audible: Intimacy and vulnerability are juxtaposed with furor and harshness - solely through the contrasts of the music.
