Hüter*innen der Gletscher - Ausstellung von Angela Ponce

An event organized by Informationsstelle Peru e.V. as part of the event series "AlegrARTE - Latin America in Freiburg" (1.11.-22.11. / Cargo-Theater)

70 percent of tropical glaciers are located in Peru. One of them, the gigantic Quelccaya glacier in the Cusco region, will disappear completely in the next 30 years. Photographer Angela Ponce accompanied a Quechua community at the foot of the glacier over a long period of time. Her photos impressively show the importance of the glacier and its water for the shepherd community and how life is becoming increasingly difficult due to climate change and the melting of the glacier.
