Julian always says: "I love you." Lia always replies: "I don't love you." They both don't know why that is. Why aren't they always loved back? Together they embark on a playful search and try to find out what love is. What characterizes love? Is love for lemon ice cream the same as love for a pet or a person? What is the opposite of love? Why does love end? Why are Lia's grandparents married forever? And why are Julian's parents getting divorced? And if love fades, is it real at all?
Without giving simple answers, playwright Kristo Šagor explores perhaps the most important three words and the greatest feeling in the world with great playfulness in his play "Ich lieb dich", which won the Mühlheimer KinderStückePreis and the Youth Jury Prize. With a keen sense for the complexity of emotions, he creates a touching philosophical questioning of love.
