Ich war wütend auf die ganze Welt – Patrik Banga

In the organizer's words:

Growing up in Prague, surrounded by racism, police violence and unequal opportunities - and still finding his own way: Patrik Banga, journalist and writer, describes the tough everyday life of a young Roma in his autobiographical book I was angry at the whole world.

The book caused quite a stir in the Czech Republic in 2023 and was awarded the most important Czech literary prize. Banga's memoirs are unsparing and poetic at the same time: from the narrowness of a childhood in Prague's Žižkov district to encounters with violence and discrimination and the discovery of his own voice as an activist and author. His story is not only a personal account of his life, but also a mirror for society - about exclusion, resistance and the search for dignity.

The evening offers the opportunity to listen to passages from the book and to talk to Patrik Banga. He will talk about his journey between anger and self-liberation - and about the power of writing down one's own story despite all resistance.

An event organized by the Deutsch-tschechische Gesellschaft Augsburg und Schwaben e.V. in cooperation with Anthea Verlag. Supported by the Czechia2026 project.
