To understand this, you need to know that the clown is in a situation where every little thing becomes a big problem. He is supposed to give a performance in place of the director who is unable to attend! For children! All right, he gives it a go. But no matter how hard he tries, the obstacles start with everyday things and of course don't stop when things get more unusual and complicated. If a walking stick causes such difficulties, what can you expect from a magic wand? Not to mention brooms, telephones, juggling balls, movable walls etc.
So it's all the more amazing when a few things work out by chance. But nothing would work without the children. They teach, protest, improve and laugh at him, and they solve his difficulties. So the whole thing turns into a clown show after all.
