In the light of evolution #1: How the eye evolved
Evolutionary theories are products of the Enlightenment and the eye has played a major role in evolutionary controversies from the beginning, especially with creationists. Even Darwin understood the difficulty of imagining that such a complex organ could have evolved by chance and natural selection. However, as Darwin expected, fossils and animal species that still exist today demonstrate an almost seamless sequence of developmental stages that have contributed to the reproductive success of their bearers.
Eye evolution began around 500 million years ago and had "already" led to a sharp and multi-colored representation of their environment in fish after 200 million years. After the vertebrates "went ashore", the organ was modified many times, into super-sharp eagle eyes, short-sighted frog eyes and color-blind or even completely blind mammalian eyes. How can this diversity be explained?
Only in the light of evolution does it become understandable why even the regression to poorer vision can mean reproductive advantages.
After completing his medical studies, Dr. Michael Wieder worked in Boston/USA on laser applications and imaging procedures in ophthalmology. During his work at the Aachen Eye Clinic and later in his practice, his work also focused on retinal photography, laser diagnostics and laser therapy.
