Look forward to five weeks of stall magic and sparkling lights at the Essen International Christmas Market. Preparations are already in full swing so that you can once again experience magical Christmas moments in Essen's city center from November 14 to December 23, 2025. A major highlight this year will be the "WDR 2 Christmas Miracle", which will take place on Burgplatz from December 13 to 17. It's going to be a festival!

Tuesday = student day
Wednesday = family day
Excluded from this:
November 16 (Memorial Day) 14:00-21:00
November 23 (Sunday of the Dead) the market is closed all day
WDR 2 Christmas miracle
This year, a visit to the International Christmas Market is doubly worthwhile, because from December 13 to 17, the "WDR 2 Christmas Miracle" will be coming to Essen, more precisely to Burgplatz. For over 100 hours, WDR 2 presenters Sabine Heinrich, Steffi Neu, Thomas Bug and Jan Malte Andresen will be broadcasting non-stop live from the specially constructed glass studio. The aim is to bring people together and collect as many donations as possible to fight hunger in the world. All Essen residents, visitors and listeners can make music requests in return for a donation. This will be possible from November 24 at wdr2.de and of course live on site at Burgplatz from December 13. Another highlight: Exciting guests - including numerous celebrities - will be coming to Burgplatz again and again. Who exactly will be announced shortly. In any case, visitors can look forward to lots of music, great emotions and exciting conversations.
The donations will be used to support over 30 projects worldwide - including the Tafel NRW food banks. WDR's partner is the alliance of German aid organizations "Aktion Deutschland Hilft".
So that it can say "Hello WDR 2 Christmas miracle", it will be "Goodbye light wheel" from November 24. Until then, however, from October 26th onwards, you can continue to do your laps - impressive views over the city and the Ruhr region included.
