Over a period of seven years, Romanian artist Ioana Nemeș (1979-2011) collected personal notes on a daily basis - in an attempt to capture every day, every memory and time itself. With the Monthly Evaluations series, she created a moving archive that traces the subjective perception of time and feelings.
Based on writer Virginia Woolf's concept of time and psychologist Max Lüscher's color theory, Nemeș developed an evaluation system based on five parameters: [P] physical, [E] emotional, [I] intellectual, [F] financial and [L] happiness, on a scale of -10 to +10. She rated each day based on these parameters and translated her dated notes into a fixed color system, also providing a key to interpret the assigned color in relation to the overall rating of the day (either by a "+", "-" or "=" symbol).
To Carry a Day in Time and Space shows a selection of seven works from this series. In the midst of the ever-busy train station, it reveals the magic of everyday life, small moments of happiness, secret thoughts as well as intimate doubts and fears.
Ioana Nemeș's artistic practice focused on the underlying mechanisms of linguistic, visual and psychological systems that shape us - and how these can be translated into a clear visual language.
