"Isithunzi" means "dignity" in Zulu, but also "spirit of death and renewal". There is a spirit in each of us: a connection to our ancestors and to the world energy that gives birth to all life. Monthati Masebe, South African composer and initiator of an archive of African cultural sounds, tells the story of three protagonists on their way to their inner selves in her first music theater based on a text by Afrofuturism author Shanice Ndlovu. She invites them to a cultural encounter, combines Western instruments with South African playing techniques and also appears on stage herself as a performer of electronic soundscapes.
