JAZZ MEETS HIPHOP

The Jazzklub is a cooperation between the Museum Angewandte Kunst and Jazz Montez.

Riverside Session presents together with Jazz Montez: Jazz meets HipHop.
Two evenings, two different programs - linked by a common origin.
Hip hop originated at block parties in the late 70s with turntables, breakbeats and an insatiable hunger for sound.
Funk and soul provided the groove: driving rhythms, striking drum breaks, raw energy and big feelings.
Over time, hip hop opened up to new worlds of sound and jazz came into play. Its harmonies, improvisation and flow made it the perfect counterpart. Today, sampling has long since become a real collaboration.

Artists such as Kendrick Lamar work with jazz greats like Kamasi Washington or Terrace Martin. But young jazz acts such as Moses Yoofee or Yussef Dayes are also striking a chord with hip-hop fans. The boundaries are blurred, the exchange is lively.
