SPELLBOUND:
Francis Beeding's novel, which Hitchcock later turned into the film Spellbound, was originally published under the title "The House of Dr. Edwardes." Although "house" is a slight understatement. Château Landry is a medieval castle. Dr. Edwardes runs a renowned mental hospital here. Two new doctors are expected: Dr. Murchison, a psychiatrist, and Dr. Constance Sedgwick, a newcomer to the profession, who discovers on her arrival that Dr. Edwardes has left - he himself has suffered a nervous breakdown. In addition, the new patient suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder, who was brought in by Dr. Murchison himself, has killed a warden. The other patients seem to thrive on the brilliant young doctor's methods. Until the insane murderer suddenly claims to be Murchison himself.
