When the first frost falls over the rooftops, the world is covered in glistening white and the cold seems to touch even the hearts, then begins the story of Kay and Gerda - two children whose friendship is stronger than ice and snow.

Gerda and Kay are neighbors' children, inseparable like siblings, and together they experience the little adventures of everyday life. But one day everything changes: a splinter from a broken magic mirror - created by dark forces - hits Kay in the eye and in the heart. From now on, he only sees the cold, the bad, the ugly. And when the mysterious Snow Queen appears in her sleigh made of ice, he follows her into the vastness of the north, into her palace of snow and silence.
But Gerda does not give up on Kay. Determined, she sets off in search of him - through endless landscapes, magical gardens and robber forests, across frozen lakes and windswept plains. On her way, she encounters mysterious creatures: a talking crow, a clever princess, a wild robber girl with a reindeer at her side, wise women from the far north and, time and again, the question: what makes a heart warm when it is frozen?
