Jüdische Kulturtage: "Dieses Jahr in Czernowitz"

In cooperation with the Jewish Community, Volker Koepp's documentary "This Year in Chernivtsi" about the people who had to flee Mannheim's twin city will be screened on November 5 during the Jewish Culture Days.

Czernowitz, western Ukraine, capital of Bukovina, twin city of Mannheim - once a center of Jewish culture: only a few Jews survived the deportation of 1941. Volker Koepp's documentary film tells the stories of people who themselves or whose parents emigrated from Czernowitz all over the world. The memories of people, environments and landscapes linger in their families. After many years, they visit the land of their ancestors. Among them is the writer Norman Manea, who lives in the USA and was deported to Auschwitz as a child, as well as the American actor Harvey Keitel, whose mother came from Bukovina.
