In "I want to go back in time", Judith Hermann follows in the footsteps of her grandfather, who was stationed for the SS in Radom, Poland, during the Second World War. She links her writing with his long denied history, travels from Poland to her sister in Naples and explores the memories and forgetting of the following generations. Judith Hermann traces the repressed, the gaps in our history and society in intermediate and undertones. As magical as she is magnetic, she tells of how fragile our lives are - and also shows the beauty that can be hidden within them.

Judith Hermann, born in Berlin in 1970, has been one of the most outstanding and successful authors in the German language since her debut "Sommerhaus, später" (1998). Her stories and novels have been awarded numerous prizes, including the Kleist Prize, the Bremen Literature Prize and the Wilhelm Raabe Prize.

Before the event begins at 5.30 p.m., visitors can take part in free guided tours of the new permanent exhibition "You are part of history. Germany since 1945" and the current temporary exhibition "After Hitler. The German Confrontation with National Socialism" at the Haus der Geschichte. Registration HERE.
