Translator Gertraude Krueger has been working closely with the great English writer Julian Barnes for decades. Based on his latest novel "Abschied(e)", she will give us an insight into their work together and the translator's craft.

Julian Barnes, born in Leicester in 1946, worked as a lexicographer and then as a journalist after studying modern languages. Barnes, who has received numerous international literary awards, has written an extensive body of fiction and essays, including "Flaubert's Parrot", "A History of the World in 10 1/2 Chapters" and "Stages of Life". He was awarded the Man Booker Prize for his novel "The End of a Story". Julian Barnes lives in London.
Gertraude Krueger, born in 1949, lives as a freelance translator in Berlin. In addition to the works of Julian Barnes, her translations include sketches by the Monty Python troupe, Alice Walker, Valerie Wilson Wesley, Jhumpa Lahiri and E.L. Doctorow.
