Julius Caesar
By William Shakespeare
About the play
Kill the dictator, free the state from the tyrant? - The political assassination has a long history, both literary and social. In our times, when democratic structures are suddenly in danger, this question is more topical than ever. How far do we want to go to protect values that have long been taken for granted and which, quite unquestionably, must be defended?
Yet, when a ruler falls, there are profiteers and these are usually those closest to power. Shakespeare's drama shows us different types of people in power that we can recognize as today's politicians: Populists, hangers-on, autocrats. The theme also reflects different attitudes to current political and social events. It therefore lends itself to being explored by a group of amateurs.
