Junge Szene Jazz (Kurator: Finn Heine): Discovery Collective feat. Louis Guignier

In the organizer's words:

Unconventional structures, complex rhythms, sophisticated timbres and the combination of electronic sound design and acoustic sounds make up the sound of the Discovery Collective. Space for improvisation, interaction and the creation of unique moments are particularly important to the young musicians.
The quintet draws on various influences ranging from drum and bass, jazz fusion and hard rock to contemporary jazz.
With their own compositions, they explore the fusion of these different musical worlds with the intention of creating unique grooves with singable melodies in a sophisticated musical context.
Some of the musicians are members of the Bundesjazzorchester or were scholarship holders in the Composers Fellowship Program of the WDR Big Band.
Colin Schulte, 20, has been playing drums since he was 2 years old. His father, who gave him lessons from an early age, gave him a connection to his instrument. As a result, he took part in musical projects at a young age, which broadened his playing horizons to almost every conceivable genre. He later took lessons from the world-famous drummer Claus Hessler, with whose support he won several scholarships and prizes. Today he is part of and co-founder of the Discovery Collective and is releasing his own compositions here for the first time.
Finn Heine, a passionate guitarist, just 20 years old, studied jazz and popular music at Dr. Hoch's Conservatory parallel to his secondary school studies. A year ago, he was accepted into the WDR Big Band's two-year "Composers Fellowship Program" with Florian Ross and Vince Mendoza.
Darius Blair is the youngest winner of the Frankfurt Jazz Scholarship. He received first prize as a soloist and at the Jugend-jazzt Hessen combo competition (2018, 2021), the WDR Big Band soloist prize at the Jugend jazzt national competition (2019) and first prize at the Future Sounds competition at the Leverkusen Jazz Days. Darius attended pre-college at Dr. Hoch's Conservatory at the age of 14 and is now a student at the Jazz Institute Berlin.
Baruna Dima: "As Indonesian, I grew up with many Indonesian pop influenced genre and some traditional music. Early teenagers, I met music through punk rock and well end up with Funk and rnB music after hearing Michael Jackson and RHCP. Grew up on the street, I got many musical lessons from street musicians, and acquired my precious inputs from experiences and sessions. In the college, I started to get closer with jazz music by playing many standards and impressed from artwork from Richard Bona, Mike Stern and Lee Ritenour. Somehow, they have influenced mostly my style of playing."
Louis Guignier. Originally from Tours, Louis Guignier is a vibraphonist known for his dynamic four-mallet technique. He began his musical journey at a young age with classical percussion. He later developed an interest in jazz, starting with the drums before the vibraphone became his main instrument. Louis performs in a wide variety of settings, from classical orchestras and small jazz ensembles to street bands and pop music groups. He has shared the stage with numerous notable artists, including Nicolas Folmer, Pierre Bertrand, Yvan Cassar, Franck Tortiller, Caravan Palace, Baptiste Herbin, the Orchestre National de Jazz, and the Orchestre Symphonique Colonne, among others.
