Britta Lauer became friends with the artist Sándor Szombati in the early 1980s. In 1983, she took a series of black and white pictures of him in his studio in Wörthstraße in Duisburg-Rheinhausen using a medium format camera in 6 x 6 format. We are showing two of these works for the first time. In the same year, she photographed some sound objects from Sándor Szombati's exhibition "Fundamentonia", which he showed as part of the program of the Lower Rhine Music School in Immanuel-Kant-Park in Duisburg. For the exhibition, we have chosen the "scrap harmonica", which is on permanent loan to the Duisburg Music School.
When Sàndor Szombati presented three works in Georgenthal, Thuringia, in 1993 under the title "Eine hängt nach oben" (One hangs upwards), Britta Lauer photographed the "Objekt mit 58 Kugeln" (Object with 58 balls), which are hung in three rows over a length of around 70 meters. The photograph depicts the installation at rest. Only the visitor who enters the spatial sculpture sets the pendulums in motion, which exhibit different swinging behavior due to the different lengths of the suspensions.
The photographer Britta Lauer was born in 1945 in Aussig/Elbe (CSR) and spent her childhood in Leipzig before moving to the Federal Republic of Germany with her parents in 1958. As part of her studies from 1982 to 1986 at the University of Essen, she was taught photography by Prof. Erich vom Endt and Prof. Inge Oswald. Britta Lauer's photographic works have been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Germany and other European countries since 1984.
