Johann Sebastian Bach's cantata on Martin Luther's Advent hymn "Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland", composed in Weimar in 1714, musically opens the new church year in the Paul-Gerhardt-Kirche on 1 Advent.

Festive music in the style of a French overture frames the strictly fugal lines of the hymn in the opening chorus. The four solo movements, tenor recitative and aria, bass recitative and soprano aria and the concluding richly figured choral movement promise the coming of the Savior in Advent joy.

Performers are the instrumental ensemble "Camerata Laim" with soloists Claudia Reinhard, soprano, Jonas Häusler, tenor, Benjamin Neidhold, bass and the Paul-Gerhardt-Choir Munich under the direction of Ilse Krüger.
