About the book "Fog and Fire"

The musician Johaenne stands on her windowsill on the fifth floor, and the cemetery is conveniently next door. Her husband has disappeared from her life, but her love for him remains. She realizes that she is not a suicide. Fumbling, she takes her steps towards a new life. But the world is out of joint: a fog covers half the world, fires and swarms of locusts rage. Johaenne flees Berlin for a house in the country, cut off from all information. She is joined by her new friends Jamal and Shenmi, the pianist Ayo and a puppy. While the house is shrouded in fog, the four women sort things out for themselves. Against a world in which everything disappears, they set solidarity and love, against powerlessness the will to assert themselves and be visible. And Johaenne realizes that she must allow herself to be happy. And to live.

About the author:

Katja Riemann is one of Germany's best-known actresses, who moves with a fine sense between commercial cinema and arthouse, as well as being at home in the theater and the music world. She is a socio-political advocate of democracy, human rights and an open society and supports the fight against child poverty, child trafficking and the circumcision of young girls in Africa. She is a UNICEF ambassador and was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for her commitment in 2010. Most recently, her non-fiction books "Jeder hat. Nobody is allowed. Projektreisen" about humanitarian work and "Zeit der Zäune" about places of flight. With "Fog and Fire", she makes her debut as a novelist.
