After several years in a Berlin prison, Tianhong returns to his Taiwanese home village: Yongjing, which means eternal peace, but for Tianhong is anything but. As the youngest of seven siblings, he grew up with superstitions, clichés and immovable role models and fled to Berlin in the hope of being able to lead a free, self-determined life as a homosexual man. But he ended his marriage to a German by murdering him.
How could it come to this? In a whirling maelstrom, Kevin Chen interweaves stories of family secrets, friendship and homesickness, of poverty and power with the tireless struggle for one's own identity.
