Prussia and the warehouse, how does that fit together? The context for the three-part "Prussian Film Series" is provided by the Landschaftsverband Osnabrücker Land e.V. together with the University of Osnabrück from September 25 to 27 with the conference "Prussia and Osnabrück. A History of Relations". It will be framed not only by a top-class panel discussion, but also by three exciting film classics.

The three-part film series begins with the bitter comedy DER HAUPTMANN VON KÖPENICK in the 1931 version. Based on the play of the same name by Carl Zuckmayer, it deals with the power of the uniform, but also with social tragedies. The background is the historically documented coup d'état by ex-convict cobbler Wilhelm Voigt, who occupied Köpenick town hall in 1908 wearing a 'second-hand' captain's uniform. His coup was in the media for months and provoked several films as well as heated debates. The film was demonized by the right-wing press as an "undermining of the German concept of morality" and a danger to "national honour"; left-liberal critics, on the other hand, declared approvingly and critically at the same time: "Prussianism can't be killed!".
