Kino im DAH: Treasure – Familie ist ein fremdes Land

In the organizer's words:

On September 14, 2025 at 6:00 pm, the Menorah - Liberal Jewish Community Bremen/Bremerhaven will be showing the feature film Treasure - Family is a Foreign Land at the Roxy Cinema. The film is directed by Julia von Heinz and based on a novel by Lilly Brett.

After the fall of the Iron Curtain, father Edek (Stephen Fry) and daughter Ruth (Lena Dunham) travel to Poland, where almost Edek's entire family was murdered in the Shoah. Edek, contrary to expectations, quickly forms a bond with Poland, while Ruth struggles with her father's unpredictability. Together with their cab driver Stefan, they visit Warsaw, Łódź, Krakow and Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Julia von Heinz talks with warmth and calm about coming to terms with Holocaust trauma. In doing so, she focuses on the subtle nuances, especially in the relationship between father and daughter, which at first glance could hardly be more contrasting.

The film will be shown in English with German subtitles. The film will be followed by a discussion.
