Kino, Snack & Talk: WAJIB

In the organizer's words:

Wajib
واجب

Director: Annemarie Jacir, Palestine 2017, 96 minutes, Genre: Drama

"Wajib" is the Palestinian tradition of personally delivering the invitation to one's child's wedding. Shadi, an architect living in Rome, is not exactly thrilled that he has to return to his hometown of Nazareth for this tradition after years. But his sister Amal is getting married and father Abu Shadi, a divorced teacher in his mid-sixties, won't accept anything else. One sunny morning, the two of them drive all over Nazareth in an old Volvo, handing out envelopes. They immerse themselves in the life of the Israeli city with the largest community of Arab Israelis with Muslim and Christian roots. Invited are: Muslims, Christians and atheists - when it comes to Jews, there are arguments. During the trip, conflicts break out between father and son on a political, social and personal level. By exploring the father-son relationship, the film empathically describes the relationship between Israel and Palestine.

About the film series:

The cinematic series "KINO, SNACK & TALK" was successfully launched back in September with delicacies to match the film and a round table discussion moderated by curator Malinka Gdanietz (known from the "ROADTRIP INTERNATIONAL" cinema program in Neugraben).

From now on, this cinema event, which has been lovingly planned down to the last detail, will be a permanent fixture in the HONIGFABRIK program and will take place once a month in future. It offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in a very special world for one evening, to get to know other countries, customs and cultures and to talk about what you have experienced afterwards with suitable background music. The films are intentionally shown in the original with German subtitles so that you can immerse yourself in the respective scenery and native speakers without any knowledge of German can also take part. The multilingual program booklets are available in the Wilhelmsburg district. Films start at 8pm. The current film selection and dates are announced on the website www.honigfabrik.de and on social media, e.g. Instagram.com/kulturzentrum_honigfabrik.

Typical local snacks and drinks will be available on site. After the film, there will be an opportunity to chat in a relaxed atmosphere with selected background music.
