OUR NAME IS A FOREIGNER by Selin Besili | CH | 2024 | 21 MIN

A carpet is rolled out on the childhood playground. A comfortable sofa, a small dolphin statue, framed photos from back then on a table. Four siblings, now young adults, sit together. "As a child, I was ashamed of our language, our names, our colorful carpet." Selin, Hêlîn, Firat and Serhat grew up in Switzerland with Kurdish parents whose language they were never allowed to learn out of fear and whose Turkish they deliberately forgot.
