Vortrag und Diskussion: The ocean starts here

Whether it's plastic waste, global warming or overfishing, we know that our oceans are under threat in many different ways. But what is often underestimated is that this pollution also comes from places like Mannheim that are not directly by the sea. Toxic substances from cigarette butts, microplastics and generally all the waste that ends up in the Rhine and Neckar often end up in the world's oceans. The local volunteer group Surfrider Foundation Baden-Palatinate has been raising awareness of this issue in our region since 2019. Caroline Golly and Patrick Preissler report on their organization and the important work to protect the waters locally and shed light on the current situation in the oceans worldwide. Of course, they will also talk about how you can take action yourself, either as part of the group or in your own environment.
