Klezmer Tunes: Stars Above the Shtetl

The musical basis of the group is the infinite treasure trove of klezmer music. The origin of this music is very important to Klezmer Tunes, but its versatility is also enormous. All arrangements come from the ensemble itself, which experiments a great deal with sound and rhythm and invites the audience on a musical journey of discovery. The ensemble, led by former professional ice skater Dimitri Schenker, departs from its classical lineage and sets off from the large concert halls on a playful journey across the continents. For the listener, this is an exciting story about klezmer transformations and relationships. From light-footed sabre dances to Csárdás and Finnish polka, the trail leads to jazz, film music and Mackie Messer.

Three full-blooded musicians, who process the catchy melodies from the infinite treasure trove of Jewish klezmer music in their own very special way. The ensemble's unique sound is characterized by influences as diverse as jazz, funk, gypsy, bossa nova and rock'n'roll.
