Kneecap is the autobiographical, explosive rise of the Irish rap group of the same name - a film that is simultaneously vulgar, funny and politically explosive. The three band members play themselves and take us on a journey from a music teacher's classroom to the big stages where their energetic, anti-authoritarian lyrics mobilize crowds. The film combines raw comedy with sharp social criticism and proves that hip hop is far more than just music: it is a mouthpiece, a form of protest and a cultural statement all in one.

Between intoxicating parties, a colorful mixture of drugs and anarchic humor, it is above all about national pride and identity. The group raps in Irish Gaelic, defends its own language and culture and doesn't mince its words when it comes to its royal neighbor. Their songs are provocative, political and yet with a mischievous wink - sometimes a side-swipe at the authorities, sometimes a wild call for self-determination.

Kneecap is more than a biopic: it is a hymn to youth, to subculture and to the power of hip hop to unite politics, humor and heart in one beat. A movie that is loud, shrill and unashamedly honest - just like the band's music itself - and you never quite know where reality ends and the celebrated self-portrayal begins.
