The catinblack ensemble cordially invites you to the first edition of its new concert series at Szene 10 in Essen! This series combines different musical worlds with new encounters, old stories and fresh perspectives. Each concert opens up a space for discovery - of music, style and history as well as of people. Our aim is to bring music closer in all its facets and to strengthen the cultural diversity of North Rhine-Westphalia. The performance of contemporary compositions shows: Music is not a static art form. It thrives on change, curiosity and the desire to find new forms of expression. The promotion of young, innovative ideas and the combination of different forms of artistic expression inspire us to create an exciting, diverse and emotionally moving future. In the first edition, you can expect a colourful program characterized by friendship, theater, innovation and musical disguise.

Together and colorfully mixed. What happens when ensembles meet, friendships grow and artistic ideas interweave? In the third concert, the catinblack ensemble meets an ensemble from the region, Ensemble S201. 2025 opens up new worlds of sound for the catinblack ensemble and Ensemble S201. Together they will present a program of works for mixed instrumentation, including viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe and accordion. We will experience the power of playing together, in pairs, in threes...

Sometimes as a megaphone quartet or as a surgical team gathered around the grand piano: The New
Musik Ensemble S201 consists of trained musicians, but defines ensemble playing beyond the learned instrument. Self-built instruments and Fluxus actions or electronic extensions using guitar effects and tapes are an integral part of the ensemble. A central concern is toworkclosely with composersof the younger generation fromthe very beginning: The ensemble has worked with composers from various genres such as electronics, jazz, performance, improvisation and music theater.

With this concept, the ensemble was honored at the NOW! Festival Essen, Beethovenfest Bonn, Frakzionen Festival Bielefeld, Opening 18 Trier, NANO#drei and Klangzeit Münster. Further engagements followed in Essen, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Freiburg and at Gordon Kampe's inaugural concert in Hamburg. Concert tours have taken S201 to the Daegu International Contemporary Music Festival in Korea (2019), the Nasz Festiwal, Wroclaw (Poland) and in 2017 to
Korea to the 7th Na-Ju International Contemporary Music Festival and the 19th Young-Nam International Contemporary Music Festival.
