Konzert Burkina Azza

PICK OF THE DAY
You cannot miss this event.
In the organizer's words:

Burkina Azza means "griot of Burkina" in the Bobo language.
In parts of West Africa, "griot" refers to a professional singer, poet and instrumentalist who performs epic texts in a particular form of song as a praise singer, storyteller, teacher or purely for entertainment. Griots help to pass on traditional knowledge through oral tradition.

The five brothers in the group come from the Djibasso region in north-western Burkina Faso and now live in Ouagadougou. They want to pass on their traditions and history and at the same time incorporate the influences of modern African music. Although they have been balafon players for generations, they also use other percussion instruments (djembé, bara, tama, doum) and string instruments (kora, n'goni). Les Frères Koueta pass on the tradition of this ancient music from father to son.
More than just a live concert:
Burkina Azza are back with renewed energy and have integrated drums for some of their pieces, giving their music a completely new timbre. They have performed at major festivals (FIMU, Le Rêve de l'Aborigène, Sam'Africa, Africajarc), as part of solidarity initiatives and in hundreds of alternative venues, café concerts and theaters.

Musicians
- Ashley de Neef - composition, electric bass and double bass
- Marco Quarantotto - drums
- Mirko Cisilino - trumpet
- Sam Priven - alto saxophone
